Deleuze seems indebted to
the creative urbanism of Situationism, in his discussions of situations, milieux,
sensory-motor links, the cliche, and his notion of the bal(l)ade
which resembles the Situationist notion of derive. This last term
would, for Situationists, designate a chance movement
through the city, an activity that would unleash new energies, create
new situations, disrupt habitual sensory-motor links: "Our central idea
is that of the construction of situations, that is to say, the concrete construction
of momentary ambiances of life and their transformation into a superior passional
quality" (Situationist International Anthology, 22).
